With their emphasis
on fun, expression, confidence building and performance,
singing workshops have always been popular with schools.
But now more and more companies are choosing singing workshops
over more dated ‘team-building’ exercises.
And, after a few understandable initial nerves, people
have a great time!
Singing workshops offer many benefits, as people learn
to express themselves more confidently and clearly, and
to work as a group, all within a light-hearted and relaxed
framework. Initial self-consciousness melts away quickly
and participants find themselves immersed in the pleasure
of performing, and becoming closer as a working unit.
One of Emma’s most popular courses is based on the
opera Hansel & Gretel. Elements of the day’s
work included:
• Warm-ups and singing in rounds.
• Story-telling technique and moving as a group.
• Hearing & discussing extracts from the opera.
• Q&A’s about an opera singer’s
life.
• Tableaux & improvisation.
• Feedback, discussion – and lots of laughs.
In addition to running successful singing courses at schools
and drama schools across London, Emma has facilitated
workshops in schools in conjunction with the English National
Opera, the Royal Opera House, Opera North, and the English
Touring Opera.
Emma featured regularly on BBC Bristol’s “Sing
Out” and “Guidelines” programmes,
and has also worked on successful community singing
projects in conjunction with local councils.
Emma also hosts one-to-one singing lessons,
see Teaching.
